Robert Falcon Scott (b.1868-d.1912)
Scott's ill fated mission to reach the South Pole ended in tragedy. Hampered by terrible weather on the return journey, one man died before Oates said "I'm taking my arse outside, I may be some time." His sacrifice failed to save the remaining three men who all perished in a blizzard only 11 miles from their destination.
In honour of Captain Scott we keep this exhibit at a temperature of -45c. Please don't touch the glass!
